Weekly Wrap Up

Happy Monday my friends, how are you today? Did you have a good weekend?  Please tell me you didn’t get snow like we did in MA!  It was crazy, it literally snowed the ENTIRE day and night on Saturday, thankfully it didn’t accumulate too much more than a dusting that stayed on the ground!  This weather is so crazy!  Anyways, let’s take a look at last week in the Weekly Wrap Up!

Week: 3/23-3/29

Monday:  I ran 2 miles and then lifted biceps, shoulders and back. I was still not feeling 100% from that little stomach bug over the weekend, but I felt good enough to get a little workout in. The day would get worse as the hours passed at work, however, thankfully it wasn’t my health, just the day in general. It was one of the worst days I have had at work ever and I left feeling very frustrated, angry and overall, just down. I also ended up working well past 10 pm which was even more annoying to me.

Tuesday: I didn’t sleep more than a few hours on Monday night but I pushed myself to do an interval run of 3 miles at an 8:12 overall pace and thankfully it didn’t feel too bad! I had another pretty crappy day at work and felt off kilter all day, thankfully, I was looking forward to game night with Robyn.

Wednesday: I didn’t sleep well again on Tuesday night, tossing and turning all night, stress really messes with me but I trudged through Spin class and the rest of the day.  My agency was late sending me critical materials in the evening and I ended up working really late again.

Thursday:  Another night of little sleep and I just didn’t have a lot in me to give. I ran 1 mile and then lifted shoulders, biceps, legs, back and triceps and was exhausted.  Spent another night waiting for my agency to miss important deadlines and worked until almost 10 pm again.

Friday:  Broken record? Can you guess how I slept? Yeah…but I was able to muster through 3.5 miles while watching 1/2 of Grey’s Anatomy.  By the time I got out of work, I felt sick to my stomach because I was so tired.  My agency owed me something before I left for the day and didn’t make the deadline so I spent a few hours on the phone with them while driving then picked up Ashton from daycare.  We went to an indoor play place he loves and then grabbed pizza and headed home.  We were being goofy for the camera too! I just love this kid!

Saturday: We woke up kind of late on Saturday and were rushing around to get breakfast and get to sports camp.  This week was football and Ashton was hamming it up like usual! (And yes, he needs a haircut desperately!)

We got home from sports camp, had some lunch and then during Ashton’s nap, I ran 7 miles in 60 minutes flat while finishing up the rest of Grey’s and then watching the newest episode of Scandal. I tried my new shoes for the first time and they felt great! I think I am really going to love having a treadmill at home! The convenience of being able to go downstairs and run during nap time is amazing!

After nap we played for a while, had dinner and then I headed out to meet the girls. We are trying to do a monthly get together where each of us gets to pick a place that we want to go and we do it.  Aislyn picked bowling, so we headed out to bowl. I hadn’t been bowling in many years, but it was a lot of fun and let me tell you, it was PACKED. Who knew bowling was such a popular thing to do on a Saturday night?

We also ran into a furries convention at the bowling alley, there were about 100 of them in costume. Don’t make the same mistake I did and Google it, just look at the picture because you can’t unlearn what it is!


Sunday: On Sunday I rested. We didn’t get up until close to 9 am, had a leisurely breakfast and then went grocery shopping at Wegmans (my favorite place to go–seriously, its amazing!!) We got home, had lunch and Ashton took a nap while I prepped all my meals for the week (I am starting a new plan today that I will talk more about later on the blog).  When he woke up, it was pretty nice outside so we went for a little family walk/hike outside for about an hour or so.

It was so nice to get outdoors and play and it made me hope that Spring gets here as fast as possible! Afterwards, we had dinner, played a little more and then it was bedtime.

Well, that’s it for the Weekly Wrap Up.  Overall I was pretty happy with my workouts given the hellish week I had a work and what little sleep I was running on. I REALLY hope this week is better at work and that I can get into a groove with my new workout plan.  Wish me luck!

Friday Five: Favorite Springtime Foods

Happy Friday! I am sorry I missed you guys on ANOTHER Wednesday!  Two weeks in a row…eek!  Work has been especially tough this week with lots of really late nights of work and not a minute to breath during the day. I feel like I am failing at life, but we will leave that for another post.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that it is Friday and I get a little reprieve.  So, I am  linking up with the DC Trifecta: Mar on the Run, You Signed Up for What, and Eat Pray Run DC for their Friday Five: Favorite Springtime Foods today!

I had to think for a long while on this post, mainly because you all know I don’t cook, like hardly ever. Robyn loves to cook (and bake) and is incredible at it, so he takes that on in our house.  I have no complaints, I never have to worry about what I am eating and always know it tastes great!

Here are my favorite Springtime Foods:

Berries- ALL THE BERRIES!! I don’t care what kind, blackberries (my fav), blueberries, raspberries, strawberries…if it’s a berry, I will eat it! I LOVE going berry picking with my boys, a tradition Robyn and I have passed down and now share with Ashton.

Stone Fruits – Along the same line as berries, I love stone fruits, nectarines (especially white flesh ones,) peaches, cherries, plums, apricots, mango–you get the idea!

Veggies on the grill-A big pile of grilled veggies makes me so incredibly happy. We cook a lot of veggies in our house all year round and they are always great, but I especially love them on the grill.  The extra flavor boost is making my mouth salivate right now!

Corn on the cob- Throughout the year, pretty much the only time I eat corn is when it’s in salsa, but come Spring/Summer one of my favorite things at a BBQ is corn on the cob.  There is something about biting into a piece of corn on the cob that just brings such good memories of my childhood.

White Sangria- Let’s be honest, shall we? Anytime is a good time for Sangria, but when the temps start to warm up and you are spending more time outdoors, especially eating outdoors, there is nothing more refreshing to me after a long day than a cold mason jar of my special, homemade white sangria!

Weekly Wrap Up

Hello my friends, how are you today? I hope you all had a great weekend. It is officially Spring, but you would never know it based on the weather we are having here in MA, but I am going to choose to ignore it because I know it will get better…it HAS to, right??  So let’s take a look at last week in the Weekly Wrap Up!

Week: 3/16-3/22

Monday:  I tried running but something was on my work treadmill that was really slippery.  Everytime I took a step I felt like I was going to fall.  I let the fitness director know and they put an out of order sign on it.  I really wanted to run but all the other treadmills were taken so I did 10 mins on the stair climber then I lifted upper body and did abs. It wasn’t the workout I wanted but I got it done.

Tuesday: I was bound and determined to run since Monday was botched.  I did a 4 mile progression run that felt pretty great and then in the evening I did some abs. Yes, you read that right….I did abs!  I need to get better about doing this–we will see how it goes!

Wednesday: I did abs (AGAIN!!) before taking my usual spin class. I got in 17.1 miles in 40 minutes. This distance irritates me so much, I tried to get to 17.5 but I had a meeting so I had to cut class short. Anyone else hate ending on weird distances? I like to end on .0 or .50!

Thursday:  I did a quick 3 mile tempo run then finished off my workout by lifting shoulders and biceps. In the evening, we put together my new treadmill! 

Friday:  You know those runs that feel totally effortless?  Yeah, this was the complete opposite of that.  I ran 5 miles while watching Grey’s Anatomy and the entire run hurt like hell, I don’t know why but it felt impossible to hold a pace that is normally easy for me. Every step was a struggle. I wanted to stop but I kept telling myself I could stop after the next mile and then would say that again after the next mile.  It was a total struggle but I am really glad I fought through it to get the full 5 miles I had planned.

After work I took Ashton to the mall so he could ride the space ship ride they have there.  While we were there, I stopped in to get a boba tea and then this happened.

He is lucky he is so cute because I only got 2 sips of my drink before he started trying to drink it all up. He was drinking so fast I was worried he was going to choke!

After we picked up dinner, we headed home and I found these beauties waiting for me!

I’ve been wearing the Brooks Ghost model for a while now, but they discontinued the model I was wearing and I was still able to find them online but now they are completely gone and I was forced to upgrade to the newest model, I hope they feel the same!

Saturday: I finally took my new treadmill on it’s maiden voyage, I ran 3.5 miles in 30 minutes while watching Scandal.  The run felt effortless, the ride was so comfortable and it almost felt too easy. I don’t know if its because its a new treadmill so everything is very cushioned, or that I was just so excited to have my own treadmill, but it was amazing! I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time on the weekends together and I can’t wait!

Sunday: I am glad I got my workout in yesterday because at around 9 pm on Saturday night I was struck with the worst stomach bug. I was up all night long and I will spare you the details, but it wasn’t pretty. I was really weak and had nothing in my system so I clearly made it a rest day. I took it really easy, did some work, caught up on House of Cards and didn’t move all that much.

Overall I was pretty happy with my workouts with the exception of the broken treadmill on Monday and the stomach virus on Saturday.  I am hoping that this week will be great and I am looking forward to logging some more miles on my new treadmill and maybe even getting outside if the weather cooperates for a run too!

Friday Five: The Spring Edition

Hey, hey–Happy Friday! I am sorry I missed you guys on Wednesday, work has been a little nuts since we got FDA approval for an expanded indication on the product I work on this week and it’s been super late nights of work and insane days in the office.  BUT….the good news is that Spring is almost officially here, even if we are getting snow today!  No, you read that right, SNOW…on the first day of Spring…oh New England, why are you so messed up??

I am choosing to ignore the white stuff right now and instead, I’m linking up with the DC Trifecta: Mar on the Run, You Signed Up for What, and Eat Pray Run DC for their Friday Five: Spring Edition to talk to you about what I love about the Spring!

So here are the 5 things I am looking forward to this Spring:

Consistently running outside

I’ll admit it, I didn’t run outside all Winter.  I ran one freezing cold race in December and broke up with Winter running.  I ran through the Polar Vortex last Winter because I had no choice while training for Boston, but this Winter, I chose to stay warm and cozy in the gym.  I don’t regret my decision but I do miss running outdoors and being able to consistently run outside is getting me super excited for Spring!

Nothing signals Spring to me more than watching the marathon, and this year will be even more special since I now knows what it feels like to have run it!  The race is run each year on Patriots Day and that is a state holiday in MA so everyone has the day off. I love the excitement of watching the race and being so incredibly inspired that it fuels my passion for running even more than what it already is.  It’s just a really magical day.


There is nothing more fragrant or gorgeous that a bouquet of Peonies, they are my absolutely favorite flower and the only ones you will ever catch me buying.   They have a short season that starts in the early/mid Spring and ends in June.  I stalk the local Whole Foods near work and as soon as they have them, I buy a bunch for my office at work so I can smell them throughout the day.  They just make me really happy!

Pretty much every night as soon as the weather gets nice I pick Ashton up from daycare and we hit up one of the many parks in our area.  I absolutely love spending time with him outdoors, running around and laughing.  We have been cooped up inside for so many months and we are both waiting for the snow to clear so we can get outside and play!

Remember in my 2015 goals I said I wanted to redesign/decorate our house this year?  Well, after hours and hours of researching and talking to designers, we found the designer we want to work with and we have an all day appointment scheduled at the end of April to start the process. She is going to spend the entire day going through each room in our house, helping to pick paint colors and design every space in the house.  I am SO looking forward to getting the inside of our house redesigned! We have been living it in almost 2 years (Whoa..where does the time go??) and we still have one empty living room on our main floor! We need to paint every room, remodel our master bathroom, and gets lots of furniture and furnishings and redesign the kitchen.  I cannot wait to get started on this and Spring always feels like the time to start fresh and get things done, so that is what we are doing!!

Weekly Wrap Up

Happy Monday my friends!  Did you have a good weekend? I am pretending we didn’t get more snow/ice last night and that Spring is still making it’s way to us!!  Ignorance is bliss and all that, right?  Anyways, let’s chat about what happened last week in the Weekly Wrap Up!

Week: 3/9-3/15

Monday:  I did 4 miles @ an 8:37 pace…my stomach still wasn’t 100% from whatever was lingering this weekend but my run went really well and it was a great way to start the week off!

Tuesday: I started the morning off with box jumps and push ups, the I lifted shoulders, bis, tris, and back and did 1 quick mile to round out the workout.

Wednesday: I had my usual Wednesday spin class and I got in 16.5 miles of speed work and hills the did some abs at night. I need to start making this a more regular part of my workouts.  I have been slacking big time when it comes to ab work.

Thursday: I ran an easy 5 miles before work and it felt really good.  I am glad I am starting to add a bit more mileage to my week, but I am doing it slowly so I don’t get injured.

Friday:  I ran another 5 miles while watching Thursday night’s episode of Greys!  I’m telling you, watching a show/movie while running makes the time go by so quickly, before I knew it, my run was done and I cooled off and stretched so I could finish up the episode.  I had a really tough day at work and left the office feeling kind of down but when I got home..this beautiful box was waiting for me!

I don’t think I have ever received another package that made me as happy as this one did!  Yup, I pulled the trigger and bought a treadmill!!!  I cannot wait to use it!

Saturday: Rest day. We all got up late and were running around to get ready for soccer.  I drove separately because after soccer I had a dentist appointment. They were running late so it took MUCH longer than I had anticipated and when I got home, Robyn left to run errands so I didn’t get a chance to workout out.

Sunday: Another rest day.  We woke up really late again and my friends texted to see if we wanted to come over so Ashton could play with their 3 year old son and then go visit the Easter Bunny so we quickly had breakfast and got changed and headed over. The boys had a blast playing together, we all had lunch and then headed over to wait in line to see the Easter Bunny. It was FREEZING outside and we had to wait for about 30 minutes until the line reached indoors, but it was worth it to see Ashton so happy.  He gave the Easter Bunny a hug and was all smiles, it was adorable.

Afterwards, we walked around (they host the visit at a local chocolate shop) and we bought a few things for Ashton’s Easter basket and then got home so Ashton could nap.  I was planning on working out when he went down for a nap but he asked me to nap with him, so I did.  I know these moments/times are fleeting and it’s important for me to spend these moments with him, so we cuddled up and napped together and it was wonderful.

Overall, it was another really good week of workouts and with the exception of the two rest days this weekend, I was really happy with my workouts and the fact that I am increasing my weekly mileage slowly. We didn’t have time to put my treadmill together because it ended up being a busier weekend than we anticipated, but we will do it this week and I think that will also help me get in some extra mileage, especially on the weekends!

Active Life Premium Calf Compression Sleeve {Product Review}

Happy, happy Friday!!  I hope you all have had a great week and are adjusting to the time change and embracing those extra daylight hours!!  So, to wrap up the week I have a fun post for you.  So, for those of you who have been following me for a while, you know my love of all things compression. Sleeves, socks, tights, you name it, if it’s compression, there’s a pretty good chance I will love it.

Well, I received an email a month or so back asking if I was interested in testing out a new brand’s compression sleeves and I couldn’t type yes fast enough. I mean, compression is to runners as air is to breath, right?

The Active Life sent me a pair of their Premium Calf Compression Sleeves in black. They only come in two sizes, size M-L (Calf circumference 10.5″-13.8″) and size L-XL (Calf Circumference 13.8″-17″), I got a medium. The came in this small little package and had a note from the company’s owner Jim.

I ripped open the bag and pulled out my new compression sleeves. I was excited I got sleeves because I have 6 or 7 pairs of compression socks, which I love, but only one other pair of sleeves and I like running in sleeves better in the summer time.


The sleeves went on really easily and there are no seams that aggravate my skin–always a plus for me!  I tested these sleeves out 3 times before I wrote this review just to ensure there was nothing that happened after a few uses/washes that I should tell you about.  But, everything was great!  I also took a few pics of me wearing the sleeves, but I think when I did my last transfer of pics from my phone to the cloud, they were accidentally deleted and I couldn’t find them in my back up 🙁  #bloggerfail

Anyways, on to more important issues, the sleeves washed well and felt great on. For those of you who have trouble getting your socks/sleeves on at times (I have literally hit my face before with the force of trying to get my socks on) the Active Life website has an awesome video to show you the easiest way to put on compression sleeves, I tried this and it is a game changer for me–it make it so much easier to get my sleeves on!

What’s in my make up bag? AND…a winner!

A few weeks ago, I asked you all what you wanted to hear from me and a few of you emailed me asking about what was in my make up (and gym) bags–so I figured I would start with my make up bag. I will preface this with I am pretty much the most low maintenance woman on the planet, I can shower, do my hair and makeup and be dressed and ready for work in under 20 minutes–so when you see the contents, you will understand why…there really isn’t much in there.  So, here we go!

I am not like most of my girlfriends, I don’t worship make up or know all that much about it.  For most of my life, I just bought whatever was on sale at CVS, but in the past few years, I have learned (mostly through my subscription to Birchbox/Ipsy and my teenage niece drilling it into me) that having a few higher quality items is more important, so I now have a handful of really good quality items and that’s it.

1. Degree Women’s Invisible Solid Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant in Shower Clean

I’m not too picky about my deoderant. I bought Degree because it was on sale and I liked the scent.  I’m pretty simple, as long as its both an antiperspirant and a deodorant, I am good to go!

2. Eucerin Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion SPF 30

I ALWAYS use a moisturizer with SPF, I burn just thinking about the sun, so this is a must have for me. This is a really lightweight moisturizer and I have been using it for years, it was recommended by my dermatologist and I love it.

3.MAKE Dual Phase Eye Make up remover

This is the best eye makeup remover I have ever used. You only need a tiny little bit and it removes everything so easily.

4. Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

This is another product I am not really too picky about, so I usually just use what is sent to me in my subscription boxes.  This one came a few months ago and I am still using it. I have a few more in a box waiting to be used when this one is empty. It works great, makes my lashes dark and long and it is water-resistant.

5. Prime Time Foundation Primer

Because I don’t use a traditional foundation, I really like this primer because it makes my BB cream stay put.

6. Benefit Fine One One Cream Blush

This goes on super easy and lasts all day. The best part, its an all in one cheek & lip tint that blend together for a sheer color that stays.  I have had the same stick since June 2013 (and I use it 5 days a week) and it’s just now starting to get really low.  It probably helps that I don’t need a lot because the color really shows on my light skin tone but I really love it and will definitely get another stick when this one is out!

7. Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm

Luckily, I don’t have any problems with my skin, so I don’t want to wear heavy face makeup. I love BB cream and I especially love how lightweight this BB cream is. I only use less than a pea size and I feel like I get great coverage without changing the color of my skin (I’m super pale, the freckles are deceiving) or feeling like I have makeup caked on.

8. Urban Decay Naked Eye Shadow Palette

I was told that I HAD to buy this by my then 15 year old make up maven niece and she was right, this is by far the best investment in eye shadow I have ever made.  It has 12 awesome neutral colors that go from matte to shimmer to glitter and is perfect for all situations. I use this shadow every single day and it barely looks touched (it’s been almost 2 years). You use so little of it because the colors are so concentrated, it will last me years, which makes the price tag a bit easier to swallow.

9. Mally Beauty High-Shine Liquid Lipstick Pens

I love that this lipstick is more like a lip gloss than a lipstick.  It goes on really easily with a brush (you turn it and the liquid is pushed up to the pen), doesn’t make my lips sticky and the color is subtle and appropriate for work. It comes in like 10 colors so there is likely a color for everyone.

Weekly Wrap Up

Hey, hey–happy Monday! Is anyone else psyched for an extra hour of daylight like I am?  I absolutely LOVE when we change the clocks and it gives us more daylight.  Going to work when it’s dark out and coming home when it’s dark out really weighs on me in the Winter so even though I “lost” an hour of sleep this weekend, I am okay with that if it means more light!! Anyways, let’s chat about what happened last week….

Week: 3/2-3/8

Monday:  When I woke up, I had high hopes of getting in a longer run, but my calves were not having it, I ran 1.5 miles and had to stop.  I know my limits and made the smart move to just stop.  I ended up lifting upper body and did heavy weighted squats.  I also stretched my calves a lot hoping they would feel better for Tuesday!

Tuesday: Thankfully my calves felt better and I did a progression run of 4 miles at an overall 8:37 pace–it felt great and I couldn’t stop smiling…good runs = a happy Sara!

Wednesday: I had my usual Wednesday spin class and it was pretty great.  I clocked in 18.5 miles of speed work and hills which may be my highest mileage during a 45 min class ever! My legs felt pretty dead afterwards but I had that high endorphin feeling for a long time!

Thursday: I wanted to run 4-5 miles but I only made it 3, I just wasn’t feeling it (maybe my legs were still fatigued from yesterday?) so I stopped running and then lifted shoulders, back and biceps. I really like being able to do both running and strength training in one session, but that of course means that neither workout is as long as I would like them to be–first world problems, I know!

Friday: I did 5 easy miles before work and I felt on top of the world! I hit my stride really early into the run and I felt great the entire run!  I was watching Scandal on my phone and before I knew it, the treadmill was stopping and I was cooling down. I wish every run felt this great and effortless!

After work, I picked Ashton up from daycare and then dropped him off to Robyn when he got out of work so I could spend the night with some friends.  We went to a Paint Night event to support a friend’s fundraiser.  She is walking the Avon breast cancer walk and there were over 40 of us who showed up to support her and donate to her fundraising campaign. If you follow me on IG, you saw some of the pics of our night–I just love these girls!

I was in tears laughing for most of the night, I forgot how much fun a girls night out is and how badly I needed one!

Saturday: Rest day. We got up and Ashton was starting a new soccer session so we quickly ate some breakfast and headed out to soccer.  Ashton had a blast and he is doing so well with dribbling and shooting the ball.  I wish I could describe the feeling I get when I see him out on that soccer field laughing and loving a game that I spent so much of my life playing.ash socccerAfter soccer he begged us to take him to an indoor play place, we didn’t have any other plans for the morning so we did and he worked up quite a sweat.  We got home just in time for some lunch and a nap. I wasn’t feeling 100% so instead of working out, I ended up laying on the couch under my heated blanket and got caught up on Grey’s Anatomy and watched the first episode of Secrets and Lies–I knew that was a bad idea because I am already hooked….and I need a new show to watch like I need a hole in the head! Ugh! Why do I do this to myself??

Sunday: It was essentially another rest day.  We all slept in really late and we wanted to get out to Trader Joe’s to go grocery shopping.  With the time change, by the time we got there it was almost 11 and I had a hair appointment at 1:30 p.m. so it just didn’t happen. I did do some abs in the evening to get something in, but it wasn’t anything too crazy. I still didn’t feel 100% but it was something and that’s always better than nothing, right?

Overall, it was another really good week and with the exception of the two rest days this weekend, I was really happy with my workouts.  I am still beating my water goal everyday too, which I think really helps my energy levels!

Happy Friday my friends!!  I hope you have all had a great week.  To kick off the weekend, today I am joining  Courtney, Mar, and Cynthia in the Friday Five Link Up.


The topic today is Favorites!  It’s pretty broad so we can take creative liberties in how we address it.  For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you know that Tuesday night is game night in our house.  It’s the only night during the week where I don’t bring my computer home and do work after we put Ashton to bed.  It’s solely about spending unplugged quality time with Robyn and it’s one of my favorite nights of the week because we always have so much fun catching up and playing games.  Right now, our game collection is pushing 50, so its going to be hard to narrow it down, but I am going to talk about my current 5 favorite board games (in no particular order).

1. Takenoko

This is a really simple game with a gorgeous board and characters.  The point of this game is to achieve one of three objectives:  using the gardener character to grow specific colors of bamboo, using the panda to eat bamboo, or flipping colored tiles to make specific shapes. There is some strategy to the game based on what the other players are doing (and how it affects your overall strategy.)  This is a game we play a lot when our nieces and nephew come over and it’s a family favorite.


2. Ticket to Ride

Another pretty simple game and is great when you have friends over because it’s light and fun. The point of this game is to score the highest number of total points. You draw cards that give you specific routes you need to claim and you gain points by fulfilling your routes.  The longer your routes, the more points you get and the other players try and figure out your route and block you!  You can also get points for having the longest continuous path of routes and you lose points if you don’t complete all the routes in your hand.  This has always been a crowd favorite here. They also have a European version that is the same concept but the routes are between European cities rather than US ones.

3. The Settlers of Catan

This is considered one of the most popular games in the world and for good reason, it is a ton of fun, especially if you have a group of friends over for games and drinks because there is a barter aspect of the game that can get heated (in a good, laughable way!)  There are 19 terrain hexes surrounded by the ocean and each terrain produces a different type of resource and you have to use these resources to build new roads and settlements, upgrade settlements to cities, or purchase development cards. There is also a robber piece that adds to the fun because it lets you steal from other players.  The first person to get 10 victory points wins.

4. Alhambra

Alhambra is a tile based game that takes place in the Middle Ages, the goal is to build the biggest Alhambra which is done by making money from the open market and then using it to buy gardens, towers and other rooms in your building.   You are scored on how many of a particular structure you have vs. the other players and also by how long the exterior wall of your Alhambra is.  The one with the most points wins.

5. Relic Runners

In Relic Runners, your character is an archaeologist whose purpose is to acquire relics that have been unearthed in a long lost part of the jungle. You get points for collecting the different kinds of relics and bonus points for creating routes to these relics, the one who gets the most points wins.  There is some strategy in this game too as you have to try and quickly observe the other players strategies and adapt so you can get to the relics before them.

A lot of these and the other games we have seem REALLY complicated when you read reviews of them, but once you get playing, are actually pretty simple and have some great strategy aspects to them. I NEVER thought I’d be someone who enjoyed board games but it’s something Robyn has really opened my eyes to and now something we really enjoy doing together and our friends and family enjoy coming over and playing too!  We have had some hysterical nights with friends while playing games.

Robyn does a ton of research online to find games he thinks we will both like.  Board games are super popular in Europe and that is where most of the best games are made (Germany) and most of our games are winners of the prestigious Spiel des Jahres board game award. We have never been dissapointed by one of these award winning games!  Ashton even has his own set of board games and we play a few times a week with him. It’s a great way to engage the whole family in fun activities, especially since we have been cooped up a lot this Winter.

Live an untangled life with Cordskinz {Product Review & Giveaway}

A couple of weeks ago, Cordskinz reached out to me asking if I would be interested in reviewing their product. I hadn’t heard of it before so I jumped online to scope them out.  I was intrigued and since I use headphones every single day for working out and talking on the phone, I wanted to give them a shot.  Why you ask?  Well, does this sight look familiar to you?

tangled headphonesEvery single day my iPhone headphones get tangled.  It’s a running joke in my house that if it has the ability to get tangled, I will find a way to make it happen (hair included–ouch!)  It’s my gift, we all have one!  🙂  However, there is nothing worse than reaching for my headphones and finding them a jumbled mess and then spending the next 5 minutes cursing and trying to get them untangled.  The struggle is real my friends!  Well, this is where Cordskinz comes in!

I received my package from Cordskinz and I loved the presentation and instructions on the back.



They sent me two colors, blue and red.


Since I use my Jaybird wireless headphones to work out, there was no need for Cordskinz, but I use my iPhone headphones everyday to talk on the phone or dictate emails when I’m driving or on the go, so these are the headphones I used to test out Cordskinz.

To put them on you take the little skinner with a groove which helps to thread the skin onto your headphones. It was super easy and took less than a few minutes to do.  After they are on, you can trim them to the size you need based on your headphones.  The outer casing is flexible and rubbery. Here is a video showing how simple it is to put them on!

I used these for a full week, taking them in and out of my work bag, stuffing them in my jacket and purse and throwing them around my car (I’m not that nice to my headphones as you can see!)  The result–no tangles!!
